Arrests

Prairie County has two ways to conduct an arrest warrant search. You can utilize the Sheriff’s office’s website’s most wanted list or conduct a routine search through a justice agency.

The local Police departments carry out arrests throughout Prairie County. Offenses are classified as either violent or property offenses.

Prairie County Jail

The Prairie County Detention Center is the County’s only institution. The facility has a capacity of 50 detainees, with 309 convicts. The Prairie County Detention Center is in charge of feeding and medicating the detainees and ensuring their overall well-being meets statutory criteria.

The county courthouse is near the new jail facility, which opened in 2015. The Jail is the largest jail office in Prairie and spans nine pieces of property in Des Arc metropolitan area. The facility employs full-time jailers and a part-time swing post shared with dispatch.

It was erected in 1983 and had its base at Court House Square, 200, Des Arc, AR, 72040. This Adult prison houses convicts from all across Prairie County and is overseen by the Arkansas Sheriff.

The Arkansas Department of Corrections operates and maintains the institution. Prairie County Jail is a minimum security facility.

The overall number of bookings at Prairie County Jail every month is 92. Seventy-one employees man the detention facility. The Jail employs more than 13 convicts in its in-house work lines every year to assist with its laundry, culinary, and other operations.

Inmate Visitation

Inmates are eligible for visitation on Saturdays from 2 to 4 p.m. visitors have to book appointments before the visit, as visits without appointments aren’t permissible. Before meeting an inmate, visitors must show the jail administration their photo ID or birth certificate.

Each prisoner is only allowed two visits per week.

The jail only allows a maximum of two persons to see each detainee during the 20-minute visits.

The facility does not allow minors under the age of 12 to visit. Previously convicted felons are also not allowed to visit. The jail searches all visitors to validate their prior incarceration status.

Prairie county jail provides three white shirts, three pairs of socks, three sets of underwear, and any transparent hygiene goods for inmates. The department also furnishes toothbrushes for the inmates. Inmates can also have the following items:

While prisoners cannot have food delivered, they can order snacks from the commissary. The government urges those with jailed loved ones to bring cash to order phone cards and other commissary items.

Prairie County Sheriff’s Office

Rick Hickman is Prairie Counties Sheriff. The former Arkansas State Trooper leads the office administration to ensure the safety of the people of Prairie County.

The department also has Thirteen auxiliary members that help in critical situations. The extra deputies volunteer their time to assist with patrols, answering calls, prisoner transport, and collecting reports.

About Prairie County

November 25, 1846, saw the creation of Prairie County. Named after Grand Prairie due to its vast countryside stretching 50 miles long and 24 miles wide. Prairie county cities include:

Brownsville, presently a portion of Lonoke County, served as the original county seat. In 1873, DeValls Bluff started serving as the county seat for the County. The county seat later moved to Des Arc in 1875.

The Prairie County Attorney provides the Board of County Commissioners with legal counsel. The Attorney also prosecutes all felonies and misdemeanors committed in the County.
