The division of corrections at Monroe provides a safe and humane environment for the inmates and staff and provides opportunities for mental, physical, and spiritual growth. Under the correctional department are the Monroe jails and prisons.

The Monroe County Jail

Monroe County jail is a maximum security level facility. The facility, part of the Clarendon, Arkansas, judicial district, is located at 200 South Main Street in Clarendon, Arkansas. The county jail is operated and managed by the county Sheriff.

The detention facility has a capacity of 43 beds and houses adult male inmates. It holds those awaiting transport to the Arkansas Department of Correction, post-conviction inmates, pretrial detainees, and those convicted for crimes under Arkansas state and federal laws. 

The inmates are served three meals daily from the facility’s full-time kitchen. Approved housed inmates with trustee status prepare the meals. Inmates who exhibit excellent behavior can become trustees and work at the Monroe County Jail for pay or have their sentences reduced.

The jail ensures inmates live a crime-free life upon release from prison and never return to prison. Through in‑prison rehabilitation programs intended to reduce recidivism, the facility ensures inmates return to the society transformed and ready to live better lives. The jail also provides health services outlined by the Monroe County Health guidelines and treats the inmates humanely and respectably.

  1. Clarendon Jail, AR. Clarendon jail is a detention center located at 270 Madison, Clarendon, AR, 72029, Monroe County. The jail has a capacity of 26 males and 15 female offenders under pretrial, facing misdemeanor or felony. The facility is under Clarendon Police Department Administrative Lieutenant.
  2. Holly Grove Jail, AR. Holly Grove jail is located at 154 Doctor Herd E. Stone Street, Holly Grove, AR, 72069, and holds 20 males and 15 females charged for a maximum of 94 hours. The facility uses a live scan fingerprint capture system and transfers the details to the Arkansas Department of Justice.
  3. Brinkley Jail, AR. Brinkley’s jail, located at 233 West Cedar Street, Brinkley, Arkansas, 72021, was built in 1884. The facility has eight fundamental cells that hold 22 aggregated detainees and two compartments for calm inmates. It also has a separate detention region for juvenile detainees.

Monroe County, AR Sheriff’s Office

Monroe County’s sheriff is Michale Neal, the county’s law enforcement officer. Under him are a chief deputy and deputy sheriff, several Auxiliary deputies, and several administrative support staff. The sheriff is also in charge of the K-9, a team of law enforcement officers. 

His office provides law enforcement services to Monroe residents by protecting life and property, investigating criminal activities, and apprehending and confining offenders. 

The sheriff is also the custodian of the county jail and maintains an inmate roster. He has custody of accused felons and is in charge of keeping them safe, implementing skillful programs, and preparing them for release back to society. The sheriff also executes writs and arrests for the county’s courts.
