Johnson County Detention Center

It is the primary jail in the county, holding inmates for all law enforcement agencies. The jail was opened in 1997 with an inmate capacity of 105 prisoners. It serves both male and female offenders. 

Johnson County Detention Center holds sentenced offenders and those awaiting trial. The charges of offenders held in the facility include misdemeanor and felony charges. At the moment, the facility has 90 inmates.

Nineteen full-time employees help run the facility. Jacob Shook, the jail administrator, runs the day-to-day operations of the detention center. Brenda Wood serves in the role of a court officer in the facility. Other employees in the facility are detention deputies who help to maintain security and assist in the transfer of offenders when necessary. 

General duties required to maintain the facility, such as cleaning, cooking, and laundry, are done by act 309 inmates.

Other Jails/Prisons

The Clarksville police department runs Clarksville Police Department Jail. The jail holds individuals immediately after an arrest. People are typically held at this facility while they wait for bail or a trial. Individuals awaiting trial are transferred to another facility, such as Johnson County Detention center. Clarksville Police Department jail does not hold convicted individuals.

The jail can hold inmates for questioning for a period not more than 72hrs. It holds both male and female detainees. Inmates are allowed a single phone call to a lawyer or loved one to come to bail them out.

Clarksville Police Department

This police department is in Johnson County, with the jurisdiction of the town of Clarksville. The department is involved in serving warrants, criminal investigations, and making arrests. Patrol, administration, and special operations comprise its three functional divisions.
