About Boone County Jail & Detention Center

Boone County Jail & Detention Center is the ONLY central jail serving the entire region managed by the county sheriff. It is the biggest jail in the area and operates from Willow Street in Harrison City under Jason Day, the administrator. Other professional employees include a director, an assistant administrator, and about ten correctional officers.

The jail can house over 100 male offenders at once, and each may stay for less than four years, either on trial or awaiting judgment. Various records and documents for specific inmates are accessible on the official website. Families and friends can call or email the sheriff’s office about the following:

  • Bond
  • Arrests
  • Release date
  • Offender’s location and address
  • Mugshots
  • Booking, date, and time
  • Court orders and rulings, among others.

The medium security level jail has hosted famous former prisoners. One great example is Benjamin MacFarland, charged with the kidnap and murder of John Melbourne Junior. Other most wanted figures for various serious crimes include Nathaniel Graves and William Faught.

Today, its red brick architecture is a historic site. For any information or tip-off, call the sheriff’s office at 870-741-8404 for general inquiries about jail services or tracing a criminal, email or call 870-429-1406 or 870-741-6038.

Harrison City Jail

Harrison Police Department is the oldest law-enforcing unit in the US. It detained inmates above 18 years with various offenses at Harrison City Jail. Most of them have less than one-year sentences, and others are awaiting trial or pending pleas. After that, they get transferred to Boone County Jail & Detention Center to serve their term.

The city jail started its operation in 2015 and has unique rules and conditions. For example, the inmates have no visitation until they get to their assigned prisons if charged. On the other hand, they can make calls and receive mail.
