The Arkansas judicial system was restructured by Arkansas Constitutional Amendment 80 Section 19(a)(2).

District Court replaced Municipal Court. Additionally, Circuit Court included Circuit, Chancery, Probate, and Juvenile Court. Countywide elections are held for the District Court, which has non-jury civil jurisdictional limits of $5,000 and $25,000, respectively.

Additionally, it has minor criminal jurisdiction over offenses, including speeding and other transgressions of the law of the road. The court also hears petty crimes, including drunk driving, small-time stealing, and misdemeanors. Every matter resolved in District Court is appealable to Circuit Court on the first try.
