Arkansas County Jail is headed by the county Sherrif. It houses a total of 136 male and female condemned inmates. The facility also offers rehabilitative programs aimed at reintroducing released inmates into society. The programs provide information and opportunities for employment in sectors such as agriculture and hospitality. 

The county jail also has a comprehensive library program for all inhabitants, including inmates.  

What you need to know: 

  1. Inmates requiring long-term medical care are sometimes transferred from the facility to another location. 
  2. Special visits need approval from the center supervisor and can be on any two days during the week.

About Arkansas County 

Arkansas County had a population of 19,019 as per the census in 2010. It is the county seat of Arkansas County. As the county seat, one would expect it to be larger than it is, yet despite its proximity to numerous tourist attractions, this town does not draw many travelers.  

Arkansas County has two county seats that include Dewitt and Stuttgart. Arkansas is among the counties with the same name as its State and is ranked seven out of the other counties. There are several industries in Arkansas County. Riceland Foods, which was established in 1921 sells rice and oil products and provides employment for the county’s residents.  

The other main sources of employment are Produce Rice Mill and Lennox Industries. Due to its vast agricultural sector, Arkansas County is home to several agricultural research centers, including: 

  • Harry K. Dupree Stuttgart National Research Center and, 
  • University of Arkansas Rice Research and Extension Center. 

Besides agriculture, Arkansas County is also known for duck hunting. Stuttgart hosts the annual World’s Championship Duck Calling Contest.
